Variations
of the Omicron coronavirus put the earth on edge
It
is very close to knowing whether the Omicron variant of coronavirus causes a
much worse disease than the Delta variant - despite reports that most cases
have so far been mild, said Drs. Anthony Fauci Tuesday.
Most
cases of Covid-19 are generally mild, and especially in young patients. Yet the
virus can also cause serious illnesses as it spreads among humans and has
killed 5.2 million people worldwide and more than 779,000 in the United States
alone, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Dr
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases,
noted that some South African doctors have reported that patients they treat
have minor ailments. But they were treating young people, Fauci said.
"We
believe it is very close to say what the level of resilience is," Fauci
told White House Covid-19 forum.
“Dr.
Walensky and I specifically asked our South African colleagues what we had on
the latest Zoom phone, and they agreed with us that it was too early to say.
They hope that in all things, it will reduce the level of resilience, but they
do not know that at the moment, ”he added.
In
the meantime, vaccinations and boosters should protect people, Fauci said.
Boosterers, in particular, can bring antibody levels to the point where there
is an extra protective pillow that can even cover viral infections.
"And
that is often reflected in protection against serious illnesses that lead to
hospitals," Fauci said.
"So
if we say that although these changes raise deficit deficits and a certain
level of immune system, from our experience with Delta (you) you can make a
reasonable conclusion that you will not end all defenses in this
alternative," he said.
"And
that's why we don't know what that level of defense reduction will be. But we
do know that when you raise someone, you raise your level of protection very
high. "If you are not vaccinated get vaccinated, and if you are
vaccinated, get energy," he added.

Omicron
Variant, At least 20 Nations, Spread Before It Was Known
A
highly new coronavirus mutation was in Europe a few days earlier, health
officials said Tuesday, and the number of countries detected had risen to at
least 20, raising questions about whether the epidemic would recur.
The
Netherlands ’National Institute for Public Health and Environment said the
samples were taken in Nov. 19 and Nov. Health officials have notified the two
people who became infected and are following up to try to stop the spread.
Omicron
mutations strongly suggest that it is more contagious than previous strains of
the virus, say scientists. They warn that they will not be sure without further
testing and data, but the evidence so far is sad.
Late
Tuesday night, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it
plans to intensify its coronavirus testing and flight tests in the United
States by requiring all international travelers to report negative results
within 24 hours of departure.
"The
CDC is working to improve the current global mobility system as we learn more
about the omicron diversity," said center spokesman Jason McDonald.
Worryingly,
current laws, which allow fully vaccinated individuals to test for three days
before taking off for a flight to the United States, may not be effective
enough.
A
day after warnings that the risks posed by Omicron were "extremely
high," the World Health Organization on Tuesday said uninvited people over
the age of 60, sick or in danger of health "should be advised to postpone
travel." In Greece, the prime minister has announced that the Covid
vaccine will be mandatory for people aged 60 and over, and for those who failed
to book their first shot in January. 16 will face fines.
In
South Africa, where the exception was first announced and widespread, new cases
of coronavirus were reported to have risen from about 300 a day in mid-November
to about 3,000 a day, the rate of rapid global growth. On two flights from
South Africa to the Netherlands on Friday, just as a major ban on a trip from
southern Africa was announced, 61 passengers were diagnosed with the virus, at
least 14 of them Omicron.
In
addition to the Omicron transfer question, scientists still have no other
answers the world complains about: Are goals less effective? Is it a cure? Does
Omicron cause serious illness?
Experts
have warned against overstepping the bounds that exceptions cause only minor
illnesses, as details are still limited. Preliminary evidence from South Africa
indicates that Omicron, in addition to previous models, infects people who
already have Covid-19, but that, too, requires strict testing.
"It
will be two to four weeks, maybe soon," before the first response, Dr.
Anthony S. Fauci, a leading infectious disease specialist in the US, said at a
White House conference on Tuesday.
As
of Tuesday evening, no Omicron cases have been reported in the United States,
although exceptions have been found in Canada. U.S. officials say it is only a
matter of time, and the goal should be to reduce its spread.
Brazilian
media reported on Tuesday that the species had originated in Brazil, meaning it
is now found on every continent except Antarctica.
The
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention monitors 80,000 coronavirus
samples weekly - about one-seventh of all good PCR.
