How to sync content to all devices with Google Drive for desktop

We all know and have used Google Drive from its web platform or our mobile apps but it is now available as a desktop tool as well. Earlier this month, Google announced Google Drive for Desktop, a tool that will help you sync and access all of your files directly from the cloud on your PC. This will help us save more disk space and will save our network bandwidth.

All Drive settings have changed and all Backup & Sync tools for free account administrators are being replaced by Google Drive for Desktop. However, you can still use Google Drive as you used in the web browser and applications as before if you want. But if you have saved large files to put in your Drive, this desktop tool will be a better option for you.

Why should I use Google Drive on desktop?

Desktop Drive is a file synchronization service rather than a cloud storage service like many others. All your files and data will be available simultaneously on your hard drive and on the web. Also, because all your files are stored in the cloud, all changes made by you or other participants are automatically updated.

The tool also allows you to access your files when you are offline and sync them again when you are online.

How do I get Google Drive on my desktop?

Before you start installing or using the Desktop Drive, make sure that no Backup and Sync programs are running on your PC.

There are three basic steps to navigate a desktop drive - Download, Install, and check sync status. When you download and install this program on your PC, it first syncs your files.

On your PC, open:

GoogleDriveSetup.exe for Windows

Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Desktop Drive.

While the system syncs your files, any changes you make to any visible connectors will be visible to another. This means that, if you have removed something from your location from your Desktop Drive, it will also be deleted from your Drive.

Check your sync status. When the download is complete, it means that all your data has been successfully uploaded to your Drive and you can access it from any device installed on Desktop Drive.

Files with sync have not been uploaded to Drive yet.

Created "" files are successfully uploaded and can be accessed from Drive in any browser or on any device with Drive installed.

Open Google Drive for desktop

Once you've downloaded, installed, and synced, you can find your Desktop Drive tool at the bottom right of your screen with the icon left on your system tray.

You can change your preferences, pause to sync, and check the list of errors in the settings button provided in the top right corner. Click Preferences and it will open the Desktop Drive tool.

You may not know it yet, but everyone with a Google Account has Google Drive. And each Google Drive comes with 15GB of free storage, with plans available for up to 30 terabytes of additional space for a price. But before you can upgrade, you will need to know how to upload files to Google Drive.

Currently, there are three ways to upload content to your Google Drive. Which is best for you depending on where you store your personal information and your computer skills level. Users who are not comfortable installing programs on their system will appreciate the ability to upload files through their browser. Advanced computer users and people who transfer files from their desktop to their Drive will always want to install Google Drive Sync. And Google fans who want to save files from their phone to their Google Drive will appreciate the Drive app.

No matter which method you choose, Google Drive is an essential tool for saving your daily storage needs. Whether you want to upload files, folders, photos, music, or photos, here's everything you need to know.

How to upload files to Google Drive from your browser

Uploading files to your Google Drive through your browser is the most straightforward way available. First, go to https://drive.google.com. This will show you everything already stored in your Google Drive. To save the file to your computer simply select it in its folder on your computer and drag it to the Google Drive window in your browser. Google will automatically upload your file. That's all it takes. Keep in mind, different file sizes take different times to load, so do not close your Google Drive window until you are notified that your upload has been successful.

How to upload files to Google Drive by syncing Google Drive

Like Dropbox, Google Drive lets you set up a folder on your computer that automatically syncs with your online storage. Instead of having to import each file or folder into your Google Drive manually, this method allows you to store your data in a folder on your computer and sync it online. Here's how to set it up.

1) Go to https://www.google.com/drive/download/ and select Download from personal choice.

2) When your download is complete, use the Backup and Sync installation file.

3) Follow the installation process, including signing in to your Google Account. Make sure when selecting a folder on your computer to match that there is enough space on your host. Select Select Folder to set your destination for storage if you do not like those suggested by Google.

4) Select if you want your photos and videos to be saved in their original size or in optimized quality. Google's high-quality option keeps your content at a reduced file size, helping you reduce your use of online storage. These files look good but may not be of the same standard as the original files. When you use Google Drive to store high-quality images, you'll want to choose the right quality. Everyone will probably not be able to tell the difference.

5) Choose how much Google Drive you will sync to your computer. Most users will not always need access to their Google Drive. By choosing which folders you sync, your computer users can save valuable space on their machine. In a world where laptops can no longer normally come with a terabyte hard drive, efficiency with your last hard drive is more important than ever. Only sync folders to your Drive that you need to be able to access without shooting the browser. When you're ready, press Start. Google Drive will open on your computer and begin syncing your files.
