Crosses 1-Lakh Mark In Daily Coronavirus Cases

New Delhi:
India's total tally of COVID-19 cases
surged to 1,25,89,067 with 1,03,558 new infections, while the recoveries have
surged to 1,16,82,136, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on
Monday.
The death count increased to 1,65,101
with 478 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra will impose a
weekend lockdown and night curfew beginning Monday as it battles a spike in
Covid-19 cases, authorities said Sunday.
From Monday night until the end of
April, a night curfew will be imposed, gatherings of more than four people
banned, and private offices, restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools, bars, places
of worship and public places such as beaches shut.
On weekends, only essential services
would be allowed to operate.
"While imposing these
restrictions, on the one hand, care has been taken not to affect the state's
economic cycle and not to harass the workers and labourers, and emphasis has
been laid on closing crowded places," the state government said in a
statement late Sunday.
Public transport services would be
allowed to operate, but at 50 percent capacity. Industrial and manufacturing
activities in the state, as well as film shoots in Mumbaiwould be allowed to
continue if health measures are observed.
COVID surge: Ashok Gehlot holds
high-level meeting
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot
held a high-level review meeting on Monday night over the surge in coronavirus
cases.
Ashok Gehlot discussed the situation
with divisional commissioners, district collectors, police officers and top
doctors. In the meeting, the experts laid emphasis on public participation and
support in containing the spread of the virus, according to officials.
They said the government guidelines
issued on Sunday was helpful in handling the situation but public participation
was crucial.
Bengal logs year's highest one-day
spike of 1,957 COVID cases; 6,700 test positive in 5 days
West Bengal on Monday recorded the
year's highest single-day spike of 1,957 COVID-19 cases, while 6,700 people
were detected with the infection in the five days of April, the state health
department said.
Altogether 19 coronavirus
fatalities were recorded this month including four on Monday.
The death count thus mounted to
10,348 and the state's caseload went up to 5,95,576, the department said in a
bulletin.
In the last 24 hours, 664 people
recovered from the disease in the state, taking the total number of cured
people to 5,73,782 people.
People's movement from containment
zones won't be stopped but take caution: Noida District Magistrate
There shall be no sealing or stopping
of movement of people in areas declared as containment zones in Gautam Buddh
Nagar, officials said on Monday but urged residents to exercise restraint and
follow COVID-19 protocols.
District Magistrate Suhas L Y made
the appeal in the wake of the Uttar Pradesh government redefining the range of
containment zones for medical surveillance through an order issued on Saturday
amid a surge in coronavirus cases in the state once again.
According to the order, an area of 25
metre radius from the spot of COVID-19 case would be considered a containment
zone and it would increase to 50 metres if there are two or more cases.
For multi-storey buildings, a single
case of COVID-19 would lead to the particular floor being declared as a
containment zone while the whole building or tower would be declared a
containment zone if there are two or more cases.
Over 81,000 people vaccinated by
Monday
Over 81,000 beneficiaries received
shots of COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, while the Delhi government issued an order
to run inoculation centres at all its hospitals round-the-clock.
The third phase of the vaccination
drive will span 65 lakh people aged above 45 in the national capital, PTI
reported.
Maharashtra: All shops to remain shut
in Pune till April 30
Struggling to bring coronavirus
positive cases under control, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday
issued a fresh order notifying that barring the essential services shops, other
establishments and markets in Pune city will remain closed till April 30.

amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across Odisha, the Ganjam district
administration on Monday capped the gatherings in marriage-related functions at
100, PTI reported.
Maharashtra COVID-19 rise: Shirdi
temple shut till further orders
Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases and
the Maharashtra government's notification on restrictions, weekend lockdown and
night curfew to contain it, officials of the renowned Saibaba temple in Shirdi
decided to keep it shut from Monday night till further orders, PTI reported.
JP Nadda rallies in Bengal cancelled
The BJP on Tuesday cancelled both the
rallies of party president J P Nadda in Hooghly district after he had to rush
back to New Delhi for an "urgent meeting". The BJP party chief's
meeting at Sreerampur in the morning was cancelled due to unknown reasons, PTI
reported.

COVID-19 after vaccination can't be ruled out: Rajasthan minister
Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu
Sharma on Monday said that the possibility of getting infected with COVID-19
even after vaccination cannot be ruled out and those who got vaccinated should
not give up wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
He said that testing facilities for
COVID-19 will soon be increased to one lakh per day from the existing 70,000 in
the state, PTI reported.
1,326 fresh COVID-19 cases, five
deaths in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh reported 1,326 fresh
cases of COVID-19 and five deaths in 24 hours ending 9
am on Monday. It also saw another 911
patients recovering from the infection, a health department bulletin said.

Delhi To Set Up Micro-Containment Zones Amid Covid Surge: Minister
Delhi is witnessing a fourth wave of
the coronavirus pandemic and to tackle it testing capacity has been ramped up
while micro-containment zones were being created where two or more cases are
being reported, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday.
The national capital recorded 4,033
coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally to over 6.76 lakh, while the
death count mounted to 11,0811 with 21 new fatalities being reported, according
to the bulletin issued by the health department, PTI reported.

Indian Idol season one winner
Abhijeet Sawant has tested positive for COVID-19 and will remain under home
quarantine, the singer informed on Monday.
The 39-year old took to his Twitter

COVID-19 restrictions in Maharashtra
not in interest of people: AAP
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday
opposed the imposition of new restrictions in Maharashtra alleging that the
state government and the Mumbai civic body have failed to curb the rise in
COVID-19 cases.
The AAP alleged
"half-hearted" measures were being taken without considering their
implications on the common people in Mumbai, PTI reported.

phase of the Assam assembly polls on April 6, as many as 320 Central Armed
Police Forces (CAPF) companies have been deployed to ensure a free and fair

Out of these 320 CAPF companies, 30
are reserved for strong room duty and others for law and order duties.

No fresh COVID-19 case in Arunachal
Pradesh for 2 daysArunachal Pradesh did not report any fresh COVID-19 case in
the last two days, a senior health
department official said here on
Monday.
The COVID-19 caseload in the
northeastern state remained at 16,849, while 16,785 people have recovered from
the disease, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.
Arunachal Pradesh currently has eight
active COVID-19 cases, while 56 people have died due to the contagion so far,
the SSO said.
The COVID-19 recovery rate and
positivity rate in the state currently stand at 99.62 per cent and 0.047 per
cent, respectively, he said.
Akshay Kumar hospitalised day after
testing COVID-19 positive
Superstar Akshay Kumar on Monday said
he has been admitted to a city hospital as a precautionary measure a day after
testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
In a statement posted on his official
Twitter page, the 53-year-old actor said he is "doing fine" and hopes
to be back home soon.
"Thank you everyone for all your
warm wishes and prayers, they seem to be working. I am doing fine, but as a
precautionary measure under medical advice, I have been hospitalised. I hope to
be back home soon. Take care," Mr Kumar said.
The actor was tested positive for the
virus five days after starting the shoot of his action adventure drama
"Ram Setu".
Apart from Mr Kumar, as many 45 crew
members working on the film have tested positive for COVID-19.

Passengers Arriving In Assam
A day after Assam health minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that there is no COVID in the state and hence no
need to wear mask now,the health and family welfare department Sunday issued
fresh notifications for mandatory testing of air and train passengers coming to
the state from Mumbai and Bengaluru to check the spread of virus.
Separate orders have been issued for
air and train passengers and the rates for COVID testing by the department's
Principal Secretary Samir Sinha.
The minister had on Saturday said
that there is no COVID in Assam and so there is no need to wear a mask now
which triggered widespread criticism.
Maharashtra Announces Night Curfew,
Weekend Lockdown Amid Covid SpikeThe Maharashtra government on Sunday announced
new restrictions including a night curfew in the state and a "strict
lockdown" over the weekends from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am amid an
unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases.
The rules, which come into effect
tomorrow, include a curfew from 8 pm to 7 am; a ban on gatherings of five or
more throughout the day; malls, restaurants, bars and places of worship will be
closed; home delivery and essential services will be allowed.
Industrial operations and
construction activity will be allowed. Rules to control crowding in vegetable
markets will be introduced.
